Matt and Heather France are an active and fitness minded couple, but they've traded some of their workout time for time spent with the kids. With a new house, two growing boys and two advancing careers, their exercise routines have taken a big hit. To help remedy that, hey want to turn some of their basement storage space into a workout room. Regina Lewis, host of DIY's Tech Out My House and tech expert Ryan Lampel help the couple turn their extra storage room into a high tech home gym.

The Tech Out My House team help adds a wall-mounted plasma screen TV monitor complete with cable, DVD and internet capabilities. The couple is also introduced to online personal trainers, a CompuTrainer high tech bicycle training system, space-saving high-tech free weight systems and more.

Tech expert, Ryan Lampel starts with the floor, laying down sleek rubber tile flooring worthy of an exclusive health club.

    Install Rubber Flooring

    Materials:

    rubber tiles
    measuring tape
    carpenter's chalk line
    rubber mallet
    utility knife
    threshold cover
    cordless drill and screws

    Steps:

    • When laying down tiles, they should be laid from the center out. First, measure and mark the center of each wall.

    • Snap a chalk line between the two opposite walls (figure A) and begin laying down the first row of tiles along this center line (figure B).

    • The tiles lock together like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle (figure C), but in order to ensure a tight fit, use a rubber mallet to pound the seams. With this type of tile, gluing the tiles to the floor is optional.

    • As you come closer to the walls, use a utility knife to trim the tiles in order to make them fit (figure D).

    • Once the center row has been laid, begin filling in tiles on either side (figure E).

Continue filling in tiles until you have covered the entire floor surface. Use a threshold cover to cover any edges at any doorways.
