    Materials:

    water pressure gauge
    measuring tape
    Teflon paste
    mini pipe cutter
    two adjustable wrenches
    locking pliers
    soldering kit
    copper pipe and fittings
    deburring tool and sandpaper
    water pressure reducing valve and water hammer arrestor

    1. Install the pressure reducer valve as close to the main water shut off as possible to protect the entire house.

    2. Double check to make sure your home has high water pressure. You can either put your gauge on an outside sill cock or on your water heater (figure A). Because of the amount of water in the water heater, the gauge may read a little bit higher than normal, but not enough to throw the reading off.

    3. Drain the system.

    4. Shut off the water at the main valve and to the water heater.

    5. Turn off your water heater at the breaker if electric, or if gas, turn the switch to the pilot position.

    6. Drain your homes plumbing system by opening the highest and lowest faucets.
