Here are a few things that Ed suggests considering before setting up a new laundry area.

    • Don't locate your laundry station in a high traffic area so that you're not stepping over laundry baskets and detergents.

    • Avoid putting a laundry station in the kitchen. Washing machines produce high amounts of humidity and dryers produce lint, which could make a mess out of your kitchen.

    • You'll need to have a professional electrician install an outlet (figure A) where the dryer and washer will be placed.

    • Another thing you'll need is plumbing. Both hot and cold water need to be run to the washer and you'll need a drain.

    • Also, the dryer must be vented to the outside of your home (figure B).
