Removing the old sink is the next step in installing a new one; host Ed Del Grande explains how it's done.- Shut off the water at the valve stop.
- Remove the water lines using an adjustable wrench (figure A).
- Use a long screwdriver to loosen the clips under the sink (figure B), then move them over to free the sink from the countertop.
- Pull the sink out of the hole very carefully. Make sure that everything has been disconnected.
- Use a plastic putty knife to scrape away any old putty on the countertop.
Cutting a Countertop:
If you need to make a larger hole in your countertop to accommodate the new sink, you'll need to cut a larger hole.
- Use the template that came with the new sink to mask off the area onto the countertop (figure C).
- Make round holes into each corner using a paddle bit (figure D).
- Cut out the remainder of the template using a jigsaw with a special blade for cutting laminate.
