    The next step in rebuilding a claw-foot tub is to replace the old hardware with new.

    Materials:

    Wrench
    Teflon paste
    Plumbers putty
    Screwdriver
    New tub hardware
    Freestanding shower kit

    1. Using a dumbbell wrench, remove the drain cover (figure A).

    2. Loosen the nut, then remove the overflow cover using slip-joint pliers.

    3. Apply Teflon paste to the threads of the new drain cover.

    4. Next, apply plumbers putty to the underside of the lip (figure B). Remove any excess putty.

    5. Tighten the cover down.

    6. Mount the new faucet (figure C).

    7. Then, tighten the collar nuts located on the back of the faucet assembly.

    8. Attach the tub filler.

    9. Assemble the shower riser, then attach to the tub filler. Tighten everything up by hand.

    10. Install the ceiling hangers (figure D) for the shower ring.

    11. Put the extension bar into place, then screw down.

    12. Hang one side of the curtain ring on the wall mount, then to the shower riser (figure E).

    13. Repeat for the other side.
