  • Turning the Water On: Master Bathroom
  • From "Home IQ"
    episode DHIQ-120

When it comes to the master bathroom, our homeowners (Brad and Lynn Oberg) are sparing no expense and pulling out all the stops!

The most prominent feature is a spa tube that is installed on a raised platform (figure A) under a huge picture window. Once the tub is set in place the plumber can make the connections.

Another feature of the master bathroom is Brad's oversized shower (figure B), which includes high-volume body jets. For more information on the selection process, click here for Episode 115 of Home IQ.

    Washing Machine Problem

In the laundry room Brad discovers a problem with the washing machine. He originally thought the washer door was reversible (the dryer door is, indeed, reversible), but in actuality it opens in only one direction. It opens from the right to the left, and this causes a problem because the washer placement has to be changed.

The minor changes (figure C) involve putting in a larger floor mat, moving a vent down (which was too high to begin because Brad and Lynn are putting in a counter over the washer/dryer combo) and moving the gas line over so it can go into the dryer.

Note: Even though these particular changes for the washing machine were minor, do know that if you're building new home every little change mounts up and can put a strain on your relationship with the contractor. Always try your best to keep changes to a minimum. The changes can mount up and be extremely costly as well!

In our next episode the light switches on go, the light fixtures are installed and Brad and Lynn realize they forgot the switches for their reading lights. Also, discover a new lighting system that can be operated from your car.
