    This old roll-top desk now looks like it fits in a more modern office.
    An old roll-top desk gets a new cleaned-up look with paint and glaze.

    Materials:

    Sandpaper
    Eggshell finish base coat
    2" flat brush
    6 1/2" seamless foam roller
    Silver paint
    Filbert OX hair round brush
    Latex glazing liquid
    Black tint
    Violent tint
    Cheese cloth

    1. Sand the surface of the desk (figure A) until smooth.


    2. Remove the hardware, then apply the base coat and allow to dry.


    3. Paint the hardware using silver paint.


    4. Mix several drops of violet and black tint into half a painter's bucket of latex glazing liquid.


    5. Apply the glaze in small sections, then wipe off with cheese cloth (figure B).


    6. Apply glaze to the hardware.


    7. After the glaze is dry, reattach the hardware.
