    Using a stencil and paint, you can create a border-like design.
    Homeowners Christie and Rick DeSilva and host Steve Bull discuss a new design for their guestroom. Steve first shows Christie and Rick how to use a stencil as a border.

    Materials:

    Painter's tape
    Latex eggshell finish paint
    Stencil
    Stipple brush
    Cardboard scrap
    9" x 1" nap lambskin roller
    5 gallon paint bucket
    Paint bucket grid

    1. If needed, paint a base coat of eggshell latex paint.


    2. Tape up the stencil flat against the wall using painter's tape (figure A).


    3. Dip a stippling brush in paint and dab on cardboard to get rid of excess paint.


    4. Use the brush to pounce the color on the stencil. Keep the brush perpendicular to the wall. Use a knife to hold the stencil down if needed (figure B).


    5. Take the stencil off.


    6. Use a damp rag to clean the stencil, then repeat the process.
