From "Fresh Coat" episode DFCT-102 |
|
|
Vickie Cadellini has lived in a mid-century ranch style home for the past 18 years. With the kids off to college, an empty room beckons. Host Steve Bull will help Vickie turn the room into an antiqued sitting room, painting her furniture and decorative accessories after first applying a faux leather finish to the walls.

Before: this space beckoned a transformation.
|
After the Fresh Coat: a transformed room for Vickie and husband.

Frottage Leather Walls- Begin by taping windows, doors and moldings with painters tape. Cover floor with drop cloth.
- Apply base coat and allow to dry (make sure base coat is lighter, but in same family as top coat).
- Tape off sides of adjacent wall using masking paper.
- Add three parts glaze to one part latex paint to create a top coat. Paint top coat over base coat (figure A).
- Next, apply plastic sheeting from top to bottom of wet paint. Manipulate plastic sheeting with a wallpapering brush (figure B). Press brush against plastic sheeting until most of the air bubbles have been eliminated.
- Remove plastic sheeting to reveal the leather textured effect.
