8. Position the next row of spacers, making certain they line up with the first row. Attach by gluing and nailing as before. Repeat these steps until all the ledgers and spacers are in place (figure D). 9. Add a support to the bottom right side of the frame. Measure the space between the two leg pieces and cut a 2x4 to fit. Attach with countersink screws, angled into the legs. Do the same to the top left side of the frame. This will help carry the weight of the stone tabletop more evenly.
10. Take your three birch siding pieces and place on the side facing out, or on both sides if desired. For the two end pieces, attach by nailing into the legs, ledger and bottom support beam. For the middle plank, nail into the upper support beam and then into the side ledger.
11. Grind your stone table top to fit. You may have the right thickness, but you may want to trim corners or edges. To do this, set your stone top on a stable surface and mark the area you want to remove with a pencil. Use your grinder and begin cutting into the stone until it is at the desired dimension (figure E). If needed, use a chisel and mallet to also trim smaller portions. Safety Alert: Whether using a power grinder or hammer and chisel, make sure you are wearing your safety glasses when cutting stone.
12. Complete the project by placing the stone on top of the grill prep table.
