Steps:

• First measure and mark off the area where the fire pit will be located using a measuring tape and spray paint (figure A).

• Use a backhoe to dig out the area for the fire pit (figure B).

• Use a rake to make the area level.

• Cut a 5'x5' frame out of lumber.

• Nail the pieces together and secure them into the ground at the corners using wooden posts and a mallet. The frame will act as a template for the concrete pad that will be the base of the fire pit.

• Make sure the frame is level and then add more support using rebar.

• Pour quick setting concrete into the frame to create a solid foundation. Screen until smooth and level. Be sure to give the concrete plenty of time to set up and dry (figure C).

• Install a propane regulator by hooking it up to the copper tubing ran from the propane tank.

  Note: Professional assistance is recommended for this procedure.)

• Once the cement is dry remove the temporary wood frame.

• Mortar a single course of cinderblocks into place on the cement base. This creates the frame that stone will eventually adhere to (figure D).
