Important: Be sure to run condensate pipe for the refrigerator, drain lines, propane lines, and a pressure regulator for the grill before constructing the deck (figure J).

    Steps:

    1. Start by digging holes for the 4x4 posts that will support the weight of the deck.

    2. Fill the holes with quick setting concrete mix, add water, and position 4x4 posts on top of the cement.

    3. Create the outer frame of the deck with pressure-treated 2x6's and use a nail gun to attach joists to the frame that will be covered with decking.

    4. Use metal support posts as a brace for the 4x4's that will make the deck more secure.

    5. Nail 2x4's across the outer frame to complete the deck.

    Constructing the cabinet framework
    PHOTO

    Cabinet framework, installed
    Steps:

    1. Since one large unit would be unstable and inefficient, construct three separate units to house the outdoor grill and refrigerator.

    2. Cut twelve 18" long 2x2's and eighteen 28" long 2x2's.

    3. Use a nail gun to connect the 2x2's to create the face of the cabinet as desired.

    4. Nail the three separate frames together to form one unit.

    5. Cut press-treated plywood to create the inserts according to the size of the frame that will be installed once the cabinet frame is put in place.

    6. Staple the wood inserts together to form the shelving. (Use a minimal amount of wood glue if necessary).

    7. Place the cabinet unit in place on the deck, and install the inserts.

    8. After the granite is attached, slide the grill and the refrigerator into place.

    9. Apply an oil-based, orange-tinted stain to the shelves of the cabinet and allow it to dry.
