In this episode, Build an Outdoor Kithen host Jay Baker and homeowner Jim Howard install Tennessee blue-stone veneer on the kitchen-counter unit and raised fire pit. They also build the framework for the outdoor bar and complete some of the grout work.In this first segment, preparations are made for installation of the blue-stone veneer.

- The 3/4-inch Tennessee blue-stone (figure A) was selected for it's natural beauty, texture and weight, and to tie in with the existing patio made from the same material.
- Work begins with mixing the thin-set mortar that will be used to secure the stone veneer (figure B). This epoxy-based mortar should be mixed with mortar to achieve the consistency of cake frosting.
Safety Alert: Wear a dust mask when mixing mortar since the process will create a lot of airborne dust.
