Running Electricity and Installing the Fan- At the ceiling take a measurement to find the center of the room. Transfer this measurement to the PVC conduit and cut it with a hacksaw.
- Feed the non-metallic building electrical wire through the conduit (figure A), and then loosely secure it to the 1" framing of the awning with wire ties.
- Apply glue to the pipe and insert it into the junction box. At the other end cut off the excess non-metallic building electrical wire.
- Thread the non-metallic building electrical wire through the electrical box and glue them together.
- Line up the 1" framing and drill through both the box and the frame (figure B). Slip the bolts through the holes and secure the electrical box to the frame with lock washers and nuts.
- Go back and tighten up the wire ties around the conduit.
Now that you have run the electricity and mounted the box for the fan, it's time to install the fan itself.
- Begin by installing the mounting bracket for the fan to the electrical box you attached to the awning frame. Make sure to use sturdy bolts and lock washers so the bracket can't work itself loose.
- Strip all the wires coming from the box and then set the fan into the mounting bracket.
- Trim the wires back coming from the fan, and strip them as well.
- Make the connections by connecting the black and blue wires to the black wire (figure C). The blue wire is for the light on the fan. Then the rest just match up -- white to white and ground to ground.
- Place all of the wires into the electrical box and attach the decorative cover. All that's left is adding the light bulbs, attaching the globe and you're in business!
You're at the end of the second day of this level 2 project, and it's time to sit back, sip on something cool and enjoy your incredible new patio New Orleans style cafe!
