    Attractive wood cabinetry and a tile backsplash help bring appeal and added value to this kitchen.
    For their kitchen renovation, Andy and Sally Kim shopped around and found a great deal on glass mosaic tile for just $10 per square foot.

    Sweat Equity host Amy Matthews provides a lesson on installation and the couple discovers why they're saving so much money by doing it themselves. The job tougher than it looks!

    Following is a brief recap of the basic steps as seen in this project, as well as a list of tools and materials used.

    Materials and tools:

    tile adhesive
    v-notched trowel
    sponge

  • Tip: Be sure to shop around if you want to use glass tile. It can run as high as $50 per square foot, but there are deals to be found.

    Steps:

  • Apply tile adhesive using a v-notched trowel (figure A).

  • Set tile sheets in place.

  • Moisten the paper backing with a damp sponge.

  • Carefully peel off the paper (figure B).
