Open up a kitchen to another room by removing part of a wall and building a pass-through that will allow the cook to visit with guests even while working. It gives the kitchen a more open look and brightens the space. The pass-through also has a counter on the living room side, providing a place for casual dining. 1. Remove any existing cabinets and countertops on the wall you're going to open up.
2. Measure and mark the wall where you will cut it.
3. Score the marked lines with a utility knife. Make several passes over each line to get clean edges when you break out the drywall.
4. Use a hammer to start punching out the drywall and tear out pieces. As you go along, check inside the wall for any plumbing or electrical lines. If you need to move any electrical boxes, hire a licensed electrician do it.5. Once the drywall is removed, use a reciprocating to cut along the edges of the new opening and through the studs and the drywall on the other side, creating an opening.
6. Frame in the opening with 2x4s. Install drywall to line the rough opening.
