    Cabinet Installation

    1. Join the corner bank of cabinets with clamps (figure A). Make pilot holes and use 1-1/4" cabinet screws to fasten them together.

    2. Make pilot holes and secure the face frames with 2" screws.

DIY Tip: Don't use drywall screws for cabinets because they aren't strong enough and rust over time.

    3. Use a compound miter saw to cut the detail rail to fit the cabinet tops (figure B). Clamp the rail to the top of the cabinets and make sure you have a uniform reveal all around the top. This will make sure that the detail sticks out farther than the cabinet doors.

    4. Use a finish nailer to secure the detail rail.

    5. To hang the upper cabinets, mark the studs on the wall.

    6. Hold the cabinets in place and make sure it's level. Prestart the screws to make it easier and make sure you secure the cabinets into the studs in the wall.

In the next segment Paul and his brothers continue work on cabinets.
