Countertops and Appliances From "Kitchen Renovations" episode DKTN-410

In this final segment host Paul Ryan leaves the countertop installation to the professionals. Then the volunteers help bring in all the new appliances.

Note: Obviously there are countless countertop choices, but Paul and the interested parties went with a choice (figure A) that had all the elements needed for this particular renovation project. It doesn't hurt that the choice is also beautiful!

1. Wipe down the edge of the cutout with acetone. Be sure to wear gloves for protection.

2. Using a caulk gun, apply a bead of silicone along the edge of the cutout.

3. Place the sink on the silicone, hold it in place (figure B) and tighten the wing nuts.

4. Dry fit the countertops first to make sure the seams align.

5. Leave the seams "slightly" apart, and then to ensure a perfect fit before sealing the seams, a tool called a vacuum clamp (figure C) is used. These are high-powered suction cups that literally pull the countertop seams together.

To complete the project the new appliances are installed.
