Cabinet InstallationNote: One of the great features of these particular "stock" cabinets is the fact that the toe-kick is 4" higher (figure A) than standard for easier accessibility for wheelchairs. - Start by placing the base cabinets in their locations.
- Determine the starting point by picking a hard edge. Use a level to make a mark on the wall -- this is the point where the seams of the upper and lower cabinets line up.
- Set first base cabinet on the hard edge.
- Shim the cabinets to level and use 3" cabinet screws to fasten to the wall.
- For the oven cabinet, mark the cutout for the electrical junction box. Using a spade bit (figure B), drill four holes at the outside corners. Then, use a jigsaw to finish the cutout.
- Use fill stock between corner cabinets to prevent cabinet doors from interfering with each other. Slide a cleat into place. Clamp the clean down and then fasten it to the cabinet. Attach the fill stock to the cleat (figure C).
In the next segment, professionals install the countertop and then the appliances are put into place.
