    1. To repaint cabinet doors and boxes, use an orbital sander on the fronts and sides and sand to a smooth, dull finish (figure A).

    2. Wipe the cabinets clean of dust with a wet rag. Let dry.

    3. The homeowner decided on an oil paint because it is more durable. A lot of paint stores will tint the primer one shade lighter than the finished coat so that when you go to put the finished coat on, you can tell where you have painted.

    4. Paint the cabinets with the primer (figure B) and after that dries, put on the finish coat.

    5. To finish up the flooring, on the side without a tongue you use spline material called loose tongue. Slip it into the groove (figure C) and once it is in place you can reverse the boards and then you have a tongue to nail to.
