- Our homeowner (Howard) chose a paper countertop called "Richlite" (figure A) . It is impregnated with a resin and is pressed and baked. Some skateboard ramps are made from the same paper composite material. It is tough, weather resistant and shock absorbent. Extreme countertops can handle just about anything a homeowner can dish out and the installation is the same as with any other solid surface material.
- The pieces were fabricated off site and secured in place with 100 percent silicone. Professionals installed the countertop.
Installing Door Pulls for CabinetsInstead of normal door handles, Howard's designer suggested using door pulls on the top and bottom (figure B). Each individual door has to have a groove routed in the top and bottom. Once the groove is in place, you just tap the door pull into place. A barbed edge will prevent the door pull from coming off (figure C).Route the top and bottom edges of the doors to create a slot for the pull handles using a 1/16th dado bit with a follow bearing to cut the groove (figure D).
Use a compound miter saw to cut the pull handles to size.Notch out the end with a Japanese pull saw, then trim it using aviation snips (figure E).Attach the pull handles and tap them into place with a rubber mallet.
Installing Sink.To install the sink, start by attaching the mounting clips that come with it (figure F).Some sinks, like this one, have a foam gasket that will eliminate the need for silicone (figure G).Set the sink in place and tighten the retaining clips (figure H).
