    Figure D
This historic building (figure A) was built in 1929 and Loretta Wright opened a Tea Room there after World War II. The homeowner (Erica) wants to turn the old Tea Room into a top-of-the-line kitchen for her condominium. Erica and her mom purchased space in the building and turned half into a travel agency and the other half is a condominium for Erica.

  • After meeting with the architect, they came up with a plan to include new energy-efficient windows (figure B) and to redo the original terrazzo floors (figure C).

  • They also decided to install new cabinets, sink, tile the wall, add shelving, install a hood, new appliances and lighting, and build a large counter (figure D) for the center of the room.

  • The homeowner hired contractors to come in and do the roughing in. Because it is a commercial building with fire code regulations, they had to install metal studs instead of wood studs. Plumbers came in and took care of the plumbing and electricians the electrical work. Most of the remaining work will be done by the homeowner and Host Paul Ryan.
