Removing Trim Work
- Remove any trim work from the top of the cabinets.
- Remove any nails that are left.
Prepping Cabinets
- Fill the holes and joints with a water-based wood filler (figure A) and let it dry.
- Once the holes are filled and dry, sand the cabinets with an orbital sander using 80-grit paper (figure B). An 80-grit works well because it will take down the sheen without being too aggressive on the wood.
Safety Tip: Be sure to wear glasses and a dust mask when sanding.
- Use a tack cloth to clean up after sanding.
In the next segment, Paul offers paint tips and the cabinets are painted.
