In this final episode of "Chef's Kitchen," the renovation is completed, starting with laying the Terrazzo tile, seen here, on the floor.

In this third segment the first of the finishing touches is to place the glass and slate inserts into the cabinet doors. Host Paul Ryan and the homeowners add a window to the existing exterior door, which will let a lot more light into the kitchen. The trim is added to the cabinets.Materials: Preparing the Subfloor -- Putty knife

Installing the Glass Door Inserts- Insert opaque glass, which was ordered cut to size, into the frame (figure A).
- Use a silicone glazing bead to seal the glass into place.
- Tuck the edges of the bead into the grooves (figure B) of the frame using a putty knife.
Installing the Slate InsertNote: On one cabinet door, our homeowner chef wanted slate in order to use it like a chalkboard. - Place a bead of silicone around the perimeter of the door.
- Put the slate into place.
- Hot glue the corners of the slate (figure C).
Note: For extra security of the slate, drill hardwood lath into the doorframe (figure D).
Inserting a Window Into a DoorNote: On the remaining door in the kitchen, the homeowners wanted a window inserted. - Mark the area for the window.
- Use a spade bit to drill a starter hole (figure E).
- Use a jigsaw to cut out the center.
- Coax out the hole you just cut.
- Insert the new window and screw in the trim piece (figure F) to secure it into place.
- Apply a coat of paint to the door if needed.
Installing Baseboard and Trim- Measure the needed coverage span and rip the baseboard (figure G) to needed height using the table saw.
- Use an impulse nailer to nail the baseboard and shoe into place.
- Replace the refinished window trim and nail into place using an impulse nailer.
In the final segment of our "Chef's Kitchen," the appliances arrive and are installed.
