    The new vent that our homeowner/chef chose moves 600 cubic feet per minute, which should more than accommodate the venting needs.
    In this final segment of Pt. 2 of the Chef's Kitchen, host Paul Ryan and the homeowners finish the preparation work for the subflooring, and then the underlayment is installed.

    Installing the Underlayment

    1. Remove or pound down all staples and nails and fill in any large gaps in the floor with blocks of wood (figure A), and if need be fill in the gaps with a leveling compound.

    2. Cut the wood to size with a table saw and use 1-3/8" quarter crown staple about every 6" (figure B) to ensure the underlayment is secure and won't squeak.

      Note: Staples need to penetrate through and into the subfloor by one inch.

    In the next episode (3 of 4) custom cabinets and countertops are installed, and then tile is placed on the backsplash, soffit and behind the range.
