Building Vertical SoffitNote: this vertical soffit will encase the new hood vent.
- Cut supports to size and lay out the soffit on the floor and secure 2 x 4s together with an impulse nailer. The top piece has two ledgers that will be screwed into the ceiling joist, and the back of the outside frame will be nailed to the wall stud.
- Use a stud finder to locate the ceiling joist. Verify those locations with a nail hammered through the drywall.
- Before securing the soffit to the wall, check to make sure it's level. Tack it in with an
impulse nailer and screw the frame in place. Then attach the bottom portion of the framework (figure C). - Once the vent and hood are in place, cover the soffit frame with 1/2" plywood.
In the next segment the hood is installed.
