  • Chef's Kitchen (1 of 4): The New Plan
  • From "Kitchen Renovations"
    episode DKTN-210

In this segment the kitchen consultant Matthew Spector discussed ideas to improve the layout and the design of the kitchen.

    Matt's Ideas

    • The current island is nice to work on, but it interrupts the flow of the kitchen layout. He suggests a home commercial-type range with a hood vent in order to get rid of most of the steam and air from the cooking.

    • Move the sink a little closer so the cook can have better access.

    • Possibly place a new built-in refrigerator into the wall opposite (figure A) the sink, but first it will have to be determined if the wall is load-bearing or not.

    • Improve the layout and passageways in the kitchen so the homeowners can better move around while preparing a meal.

    • Add more storage.

Note: The main goal of this particular kitchen renovation is to make cooking for both homeowners a more pleasant and organized experience.

In the next segment we take a tour of the ultimate chef's kitchen!
