Vinyl Floor Removal and Prepping for the Underlayment- With a utility knife, score the old vinyl floor in sections to make it easier to pull out.
- Use a pliers and wear gloves to assure a better grip, and pull up as large of pieces as possible (figure D).
- You may need to use a scrapper to get up tough areas. Old adhesive can be difficult.
- Begin the prep work for the underlayment by removing the vent covers.
- Cut down the drain pipe using the reciprocating saw (figure E).
- Cut down the copper water feed lines.
- Remove the damaged chipboard using a pry bar and hammer.
- Vacuum up the sawdust.
- For this particular project, the carpet in the family room had to be removed as well. The easiest way was to use a utility knife, cutting in 3' sections and removing (figure F).
In the next segment, Ryan and the homeowners will remove the old glass-block window.
