Installing New Cabinets- Measure and mark the back of cabinet where the drain pipes, water pipes, gas line and electrical will need to enter.
- Using a paddle bit, drill a pilot hole so you can cut out access panel in the back of the cabinet with the jigsaw.
- Slide the cabinet in place (figure A), leaving enough room for the stove and small end of the cabinet on one side and the dishwasher on the other.
- Since the studs are already marked you will know where to drill pilot holes in the cabinet back for mounting. Use 3" screws to mount the cabinets to the wall.
- When mounting the stove side cabinet panel, make sure to check the stove manufacturer's specification so you know how much space to leave.
- Attach the side cabinet panel using 3" screws (figure B) -- hitting studs if possible.
Note: Check to make sure the cabinets are level and shim if necessary.
In the next segment, Ryan and the homeowners will get busy on the existing counter, getting it ready for the new soapstone countertop.
