The DIY to the Rescue crew teaches Todd how to "do-over" his demolition work by cutting, installing and finishing new drywall.

tape measure

chalk line
utility knife
drywall circle cutter (figure A)
hammer
nails
1-1/2" drywall screws
drill or electric screwdriver
joint compound ("mud")
mud tray
6" mud knife
10" mud knife
drywall tape
sandpaper
power sander with shop vacuum attachment
safety glasses
face masks
1. Measure from the corner of the ceiling to the joist closest to (but less than) eight feet.

2. Mark measurements on drywall using a chalk line.

3. Set drywall against the wall or sturdy worktable and use a utility knife to score along measurement (figure B) just past the paper and into the board.

4. Give the scored drywall a quick push to break it (figure C), then use knife to finish the cut on the opposite side.

5. Mark center position of recessed lights on your drywall.
