    Continuing the Demolition

    1. To remove the sink the plumbing needs to be disconnected first. (Hire a plumber if you are not comfortable doing this.)

    2. Cut the silicone bead that holds sink in place with utility knife.

    3. Pry out the sink using a hammer and pry bar (figure A).

    4. Once lifted, slide a small wood block under the lip (figure B). This makes it easier to lift up and out.

Note: Remember that cast iron is extremely heavy, so be sure to have help and proper back support.

Tip: For a demolition job like this you may want to consider renting a dumpster. You can rent a six-yard dumpster for five days for approximately $180.

      Countertop Removal

    5. Use a pry bar and hammer to loosen the countertop first, and then just lift and remove.

Warning: Be careful not to damage any pipes or plumbing when removing the countertops.

    6. To remove the sink cabinets, use a small pry bar to score the floor (figure C) of the cabinet around the water pipes.

    7. Then pry out the thin flooring board-base of the cabinet.

    8. Now lift the cabinet frame up and over pipes.

In the next segment, it's time to tear out the flooring.
