    Changing the Light Fixtures

    1. First, be sure to turn off the power.

    2. Unscrew the light bulbs and remove the globes.

    3. Remove the escutcheon to get at the wiring, and then cut the black wire first (figure A), then the blue and then the rest.

    4. Unscrew cap and then the universal cross bar.

    5. Thread on the new cross bar (figure B) that's included with the fixture.

    6. Attach the wires with an insulating wire nut.

    7. Screw the base tight to the ceiling.

    8. Screw in the light bulbs and put on the new globe.

      Painting

    9. Prepare for painting by using masking tape on the corners (figure C), etc.

    10. Repaint the surfaces.

    11. In the last episode, the homeowners decided to transfrom the basement into a message board with chalkboard paint. Now is the time to paint the inside of the door with chalkboard paint (figure D).

    In the next segment, Ryan and the homeowners install the butcher-block countertop.
