With the beadboard in place, along with the new bookshelf and desk, this "Country Cottage" kitchen is really starting to take shape!
|
|
- To make a freestanding desk from the old cabinets, the homeowners ordered some table legs (figure A) to insert under the cabinet.
- To remake the desk, the first order of business is to redo the drawers. The existing drawer fronts must come off, and this is accomplished by using a table saw. Note that if the fronts were merely pulled off, they could be damaged. Sawing gives you much more control.
Safety Alert: When using a table saw, always wear eye protection and remember to go slowly! - Once the fronts are removed, simply attach the new fronts.
- To attach the bun feet, clamp the feet in each corner and drill pilot hole (figure B) with a countersink. A couple of 2" screws into each foot will hold them in place.
- Move the desk into the space against the wall and screw into place. Make sure the screws go into studs.
- Repaint the desk.
- Add the corner bookshelf (figure C) made with purchased table leg.
In the final episode of DIY's "Country Cottage" kitchen renovation, Ryan and the homeowners share tips and tricks to installing the new cabinet door and drawer fronts, and they show you how to install the butcher-block countertop. Then the appliances are brought in to create a new dream kitchen makeover.
