    Figure D

    1. Make cutouts for from the beadboard for the outlets. The trick is to make accurate measurements (figure A). Measure from the front wall to the front and rear of the box.

    2. Run the tape measure down from the bottom of the cabinet to get the measurements for the top and bottom of the box.

    3. Use a level to transfer the horizontal lines from the bottom of the cabinet to the vertical lines coming down from the cabinet. You now have the four measurements you need to transfer to the panel. Be sure to take your time because the panels are expensive.

    4. Cut pilot holes in the corners and cut the opening (figure B) for the box with a jigsaw.

    5. Feed the wires through and make the final adjustments.

      Transforming the Door with Beadboard

    6. Start by drawing a diagram (figure C) of what you want. The homeowners decided to use beadboard on the bottom half of the door and to frame the top half so it could be used as a message board.

    7. Remove the door and take off the old doorknob.

    8. Using a level, mark a line across the bottom-half of the door, level with the top of the existing wainscoting. This will show how high to run the beadboard.

    9. Cut and measure the beadboard and attach to the bottom of the door.

    10. Cut a rabbet (figure D) around the edge of the framing to attach snugly to the door and beadboard. You can use a router to create the rabbet.

    11. Use wood glue and nails to attach the framing.

    12. Paint the top half of the door.

    13. Put the door back on its hinges and attach the doorknob.

In the next segment, Ryan and the homeowners install the apron-front fire-clay sink.
