Installing the Beadboard- Remove the old laminate (figure A) from the wall.
- Turn off the power and wrap the outlets with electrical tape. Be sure to cover all the wires with tape to prevent any accidents.
- Remove the switches and outlets from their boxes.
- Remove the window trim. Beadboard (figure B -- 1/4" thick) will sit behind it.
- Measure and cut the panels of beadboard.
- Adhere the panels to the cabinets and walls. On the back of the panel put 1/4" bead of adhesive about 1" from the edge of the panel.
- Press the panel firmly onto wall, and nail it into place about every 12".
- Leave an overhang on the panel to join seams on the pieces of the beadboard (figure C).
In the next segment, Ryan and the homeowners will share some tips and techniques for making accurate cutouts in the beadboard, and they'll transform the old door with beadboard and chalkboard paint.
