Safety Alert: Wear protective gear, in this case goggles and gloves! Reconfiguring the Cabinets - Remove shelves and get them out of the way (figure A).
- Remove screws from back and side of cabinets and the unit should come right down (figure B).
- Set saw depth at 3/4-inch. Make sure fence is set correctly and tightened fully before cutting. Lay the cabinet face down and cut through the top and bottom of the frame. Flip it over and cut along the back (figure C).
- Remove top and bottom side panels and cut off excess front frame pieces.
- Fill dado joints on cabinet side with glue (figure D).
- Clamp cabinet together while glue is drying (figure E). Secure side to cabinet with nailer.
Measuring and Cutting Cabinet Doors - Before replacing cabinet doors or doing backsplash, get electrical work done (unless you have experience with electricity, leave this to a licensed pro).
- Measure openings for cabinet doors (figure F). The cabinet doors in this episode are fold overlay, meaning they overlap the cabinet face frame on all four sides.
- Add an inch-and-a-quarter to each measurement.
- For double-doors, measure across both openings and cut one big piece, then cut that piece down the middle for two perfectly matched cabinet doors.
- Make a diagram and carefully note each measurement (figure G).
- Cut out cabinet doors using circular saw. Apply polyurethane sealer to doors.
- Drill holes for European cup hinges using the Forstner bit and Jig-It system (figure H).
- Remove small cabinet and raise to accommodate new microwave.
- Paint cabinet faces and kitchen walls.
