Time-saving ToolsVery few gardeners ever find themselves with the right tool at the right time. Instead of running back to the garage or shed to get those pruners or gloves, create a mini-shed right in the garden by installing a mailbox, which is inexpensive, water-resistant and available in decorative designs. Or stick with plain black or green, which will blend into the background.
Here are some tools that you'll reach for again and again especially if they're in that handy mailbox:
Leatherman. Known for their multi-functional tools, Leatherman has expanded to gardening. Their bypass pruning shears include wire cutters, a weed remover, a grafting knife, bark lifter, Phillips screwdriver, a saw, flat screwdriver, a sprinkler tool and even a bottle opener.
CobraHead weeder and cultivator. Sometimes simple is better. The CobraHead does a great job at weeding. The manufacturer says it's like having a steel fingernail; it lets you dig out tap roots and spreading roots. It will reach into tight places, letting you pull weeds growing right next to an established plant without disturbing it.
Trowel and other digging tools. Look for some of the new ergonomic designs. Other good additions include twine, scissors, and Velcro tape, which is great to tying plants to stakes.
