With the bookcases secured and trim added, it's time to add the finishing touches -- primer and paint.

- Fill nail holes with wood putty, then sand the entire piece with 220-grit sanding block.
- Wipe clean with clean, dry rag.
- Apply a coat of primer and allow to dry. Then, lightly sand with the sanding block and wipe to remove residue.
- Caulk and gaps left (figure A), then apply two coats of paint (figure B) in the color of your choice, allowing to dry thoroughly between coats.
