Murphy Bed, Part 1 - Finishing the Bookcases From "Weekend Remodeling" episode WKR-209

	Don't give up your home office ...
	... a Murphy Bed surrounded by bookcases makes a stylish stowaway that can be easily retrieved for overnight guests.

With the bookcases secured and trim added, it's time to add the finishing touches -- primer and paint.

Materials:

3/4" plywood
1/4" plywood
1 x 2 poplar pieces and poplar trim
Hinges
Pocket hole plugs
1-1/4" wood screws
3" wood screws
Glue
Putty
Primer
Paint in color of choice
Circular Saw
Compound miter saw
Drill with bits
Reciprocating saw
Levels - 2 ft. and 4 ft.
T-square
Pocket hole jig (figure A)
Drill press
Trim nailer
Brad nailers
Clamps
Sanding block
Utility knife
Pry bar
Rubber mallet

1. Fill nail holes with wood putty, then sand the entire piece with 220-grit sanding block.

   
   

2. Wipe clean with clean, dry rag.

   
   

3. Apply a coat of primer and allow to dry. Then, lightly sand with the sanding block and wipe to remove residue.

   
   

4. Caulk and gaps left (figure A), then apply two coats of paint (figure B) in the color of your choice, allowing to dry thoroughly between coats.
