    Cabinet Doors

This bookcase design includes a storage area with doors.

    9. To make the doors, use 1/4" plywood for the facing, which will be surrounded by 1 x 2 frames. Pre-cut all the pieces to length, then use tongue and groove router to cut the tongue (figure G) on the two short pieces.

    10. Readjust the router to create the groove down the center of all four pieces of the door frame (figure H). In this example, a decorative ogee profile is cut into the face of the 1 x 2 while the groove is being cut.

    11. Assemble the doors. First, add a little glue to one of the short pieces, then insert the tone into the grooves on the longer pieces (figure I). Hold edges flush, then clamp.

    12. Next, slide the 1/4" plywood into the grooves (figure J), glue the ends of the final piece, then slide over the opposite end. With everything secure, move clamp to center to hold everything in place.

    13. Measure and mark location of where hinges will be. In this example, 15/16" from the side and 3-1/2" from the ends. Cut 1-3/8" holes for hidden hinges using a drill press. Insert hinge into a hold, pre-drill and add screws.

    14. Pre-drill the inside of the front frame at the bottom of the bookcase. Position the door and secure hinges to the cabinet with screws (figure K).

Next, Fuad will attach the bookcases to the wall and add trim.
