    1. Determine the location of the studs in the wall by using a stud finder. Once you have located the studs, mark the area (figure A) where the new wall frame can be attached to the walls.

    2. Cut framing while paying attention to cut the floor or seal plate only partially so the remaining pieces can be removed when framing is done.

    3. Install the framing members starting from the outside and working in, paying special attention to plumb and level on the door framing.

    4. Once the header and sole plate are installed (figure B) cut out the area of the sole plate (figure C) where the door will be.

    5. Measure, cut and install drywall (figure D), then use drywall tape and mud (figure E) to texture the walls (in this case, to match the existing surface).

    6. Once the other work in the room is done and the door can be installed, be sure and position door into framing using small adjustments and shims to achieve plumb and level.

    7. Use a finish nailer to attach door into the framing and tighten wood screws into the studs to finalize the installation.
