    From "Weekend Decorating"
    episode WDC-207

Have a room piled up with boxes and out-of-date stuff? If you do (and who doesn't?), then it's time to roll up your sleeves and get ready for a transformation. In this episode of Weekend Decorating, host Nancy Golden turns the "junk room" into a fabulous library. Working over the course of one weekend, with lots of hard work and a few inexpensive changes, a cluttered room becomes a dual-purpose library / office with a look that is both classic and timeless.

On a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 having the greatest degree of difficulty, this project rates a 3. It took 10 hours, spread over the course of two days. Prep work, done in advance, included removing old light fixtures, painting the walls and shutters and taking measurements for the shelving that will run along one wall. The cost of supplies and accessories was $2,500.

When starting any project, it's important to be organized and efficient with your time; this is especially true when working with a weekend deadline in mind. The first step is to create a floor plan, detailing where all room furnishings will be placed. For this project, Nancy used a computer decorating program that allows you to create a detailed diagram of the room without having to move the furniture around.

Tip: Always remember traffic flow when working on any room-design project.

When your floor plan is finished, gather all needed furnishings, accessories and tools prior to the weekend of your room transformation.
