Ahmed Hassan, host of Green Me Up, helps members of the Peterson family install a new super efficient refrigerator.
    Refrigerator Installation

See Resources, below, for more refrigerator details.

    The approximate dimensions of the refrigerator (HxDxW): 70-3/4" x 29-11/16" x 36"

    Clearances

Allow the following clearances for ease of installation, proper air circulation and plumbing and electrical connections:

    Sides: 1/8"
    Top: 1"
    Back: 1/2"

    Refrigerator Location

Don't install the refrigerator where the temperature will go below 60?F or above 100?F. And be sure to install it on a floor strong enough to support it fully loaded.

    Materials:

a GE water supply kit (containing tubing, shutoff valve and fittings — available from a GE dealer or from GE Parts and Accessories, see Resources, below)
a cold-water supply (the water pressure must be between 20 and 120 pounds per square inch — p.s.i.)
    power drill
    adjustable wrench
    Straight of Phillips blade screwdriver

    Notes:

    • A cold-water supply is required for automatic icemaker and dispenser operation.
    • If there is no cold-water supply, you'll need to provide one.
    • Before making the connection to the refrigerator, be sure the refrigerator cord is not plugged into the wall outlet.
    • Never move a refrigerator onto its side or back. It should always be upright.

    1. Pull out the old appliance (figure A).

    2. Disconnect the power and water (figure B).

    3. Remove all packaging from the new appliance.

    4. Make sure the icemaker power switch is set to the O (off) position and then reconnect power and water.

    5. Slide into place.

    6. Level the refrigerator by adjusting the rollers located near the bottom hinges. (Turn the roller adjusting screws clockwise to raise the refrigerator and counterclockwise to lower it. Use a 3/8" hex socket or wrench or an adjustable wrench.)

    7. Level the doors with a 7/16" wrench (right to raise; left to lower).

    8. Replace the base grille by installing the two Phillips head screws.

Note: Consult your owner's manual on how to hook up the icemaker, if applicable.
