Petty Officer Albert Ramirez was deployed to Iraq to serve in Operation Iraqi Freedom a few months back. His car air conditioner hasn't been working for some time now, so the DIY crew will take this task off his hands before he comes home. - Ensure that the system isn't leaking by performing a visual inspection, followed by a performance test.
Performance Test - With the engine running, switch the A/C blower to high, and then check for compressor engagement.
- Connect the low side port hose of R134a gauge, set to low side port valve fitting, and then open the valve.
- Connect the center hose of the gauge, set to a tapped can of R134a refrigerant (figure A).
Note: refer to manufacturer's service manual for correct system refrigerant pressure. - Run performance test as before.
- With the engine off, shut the high side valve off, and then disconnect the hose.
