Changing out the knobs or pulls on your cabinet doors can make a big statement for very little money, but there are a few tips you need to know:

    1. To replace knobs with pulls, first remove the knobs by unscrewing them from the back of the door

    2. Next, measure where you'll want the handle to be located. (You may want to invest in a handy little plastic gadget -- available at home-improvement stores -- that features a series of holes representing the placement of various standard-size pulls. Simply find the correct holes and mark through them with a pencil -- the straight edges of the gadget make it easy to align the holes with the sides of the door.)

    3. Predrill the holes for the new hardware.

    4. Fill in the old holes with word putty, then sand and paint to match the cabinet finish.

    5. Attach the new handles by screwing them in place -- and your old cabinets are new again!
