    Materials and Tools:

    hammer
    beeswax
    torch
    wax scrapper
    staple gun
    staples
    felt
    wood feather strip
    extension wrench
    new pockets

    Steps:

    1. Start by removing the pockets of the pool table. Then undo all the bolts that hold the top of the table into place.

    2. Lift off the picture frame top (figure A) and lay it upside down on the ground or work space.

    3. Now strip all of the staples (figure B) that hold the felt to the table. And then, remove the old felt.

    4. Underneath the felt is the slate surface (figure C). The slate consists of 3 pieces that each weigh about 250 pounds.

    5. Seal the seams of the slate by melting beeswax into the crevices with a torch (figure D). Once the wax dries, scrape off the excess wax, making the surface smooth (figure E).

    6. Staple the new flet into place (figure F). Make sure to pull the flet tight on the sides (figure G). And cut holes in the fabric where the new pockets will go.

    7. Recover the frame bumpers by installing a wood feather strip to hold the felt onto the rail.

    8. Then staple the flet in place under the frame (figure H) using a staple gun, pulling the felt tight as you go.

    9. Put the finished frame back on the table and bolt it back into place (figure I). Tighten with an extension wrench.

    10. Install the new pockets (figure J), which easily slip through the holes and new felt, right into place.
