    thrift store lamp
    electrical kit
    birdcage

    1. Rewire the lamp if needed. Leave about eight inches of extra cord and the light fixture itself dangling from the top. This will eventually be fed into the birdcage.

    2. Measure the height of the birdcage.

    3. Cut a strip of fabric using the birdcage measurement, so that it can be wrapped around the inside of the birdcage and act as the lampshade.

    4. Feed the end of the lighting fixture into the top of the birdcage to create a "hanging-lantern" style of light.

    5. Secure the birdcage with the lighting fixture inside to the end of the original lamp using a brass chain.

    6. Hang from ceiling.
