    1. Disassemble the unneeded parts.

    2. Remove the drawers, and then unscrew the plastic decorative trim. Remove the drawer pulls.

    3. Using the jigsaw, cut the decorative lattice from the doors (figure A), and then carefully pull the remaining bits off.

    4. Remove the drawer supports in the upper portion.

    5. Prepare the interior for the new glass shelves.

    6. Measure and cut new 3/4 inch birch plywood panels using a table saw for each interior side of the unit.

    7. Using a 12 inch square, measure and mark the panels for the adjustable shelf pin holes one inch from the front and back every 1-1/2 inches. Drill 1/4 inch holes in every mark.

    8. Using a table saw, cut a new 3/4 inch piece of plywood panel for the bottom of the upper unit, and then glue and nail gun into place.

    9. Glue and nail gun the side panels into place.

    Prepare and Paint:

    1. Fill in any trim piece screw holes with wood filler, which has a very fast dry time and will not shrink like wood putty.

    2. Sand all surfaces to allow the paint to adhere to the previously painted surfaces and to smooth out the filler.

    3. Caulk any seems in the existing trim and the new interior pieces.

    4. Prime and paint the interior and exterior.

    Installing the Puck Lights:

    1. Mount each light fixture to a 3/4 inch scrap of wood about 6" x 6". Drill two 1/8 inch holes in the top back of each unit (one hole per wire).

    2. Connect all wires.

    3. Screw the light fixture blocks to the ceiling of the unit (figure B).

    Installing Glass Doors:

    1. Lay out soft clean fabric or paper on the work table.

    2. Have the glass cut by a hardware store or custom glass cutter to fit the doors. Also, have a piece cut to use as the interior shelf.

    3. Fill the channels that previously held the lattice with rope caulk to prevent rattling of the new glass panels.

    4. Set the glass panes in (figure C), and then fix in with glazing points.

    5. Re-hang the doors, set in adjustable shelf pins and the glass shelf, and then install new drawer pulls.

    Project Cost:

    Dressers: $50
    Glass: $32
    Hardware: $24
    Lighting, wood, materials: $47

    Total: $153
