    Game pieces are attached to an old coffee table, and then covered with Plexiglas.

    1. Prepare the table by sanding and painting it as desired.

    2. Cover the table with a sheet of paper or cardboard.

    3. Layout the design onto the top of the paper on the table.

    4. Remove the paper, and then transfer the layout onto the table.

    5. Affix tiles, playing cards and poker chips with tile adhesive (figure I). In order to cover smaller areas, it may be necessary to break the glass tiles into smaller pieces. Wrap the glass tiles in a rag, and then hit them with a hammer.

    Safety Note: When breaking tiles, wear gloves and safety glasses to prevent injury.

    6. Allow the adhesive to dry overnight.

    7. Apply polyurethane to the playing cards, and then allow to dry overnight.

    8. Mix colored grout and apply to the table top. Follow the directions on the grout package.

    9. Wet and wipe the grout as needed to remove unneeded grout from the project. Let the grout dry.

    10. Cut a piece of Plexiglas to cover the table.

    11. Sand the edges of the Plexiglas until smooth.

    Project Cost:

    Thrift store table: $10
    Game pieces: $10
    Tile adhesive, grout: $8
    Plexiglas: $15

    Total: $43
