    Cover Bar

    A thrift store hutch is taken apart and made into a funky bar and cabinet.

    tape measure
    circular saw
    chop saw
    power drill

    Top Section

    1. Remove the top section of the china cabinet (figure C).

    2. Remove the glass.

    3. Sand down to the bare wood.

    4. Stain with green stain.

    5. Apply polyurethane.

    6. Replace the glass in the doors with plastic sheeting.

    7. Install strip lights under each shelf, and then run the wiring as needed.

    Bottom Section

    Note: This was built to fit around a radiator. The dimensions of the radiator will be the inside dimensions of your box.

    1. Cut off the sides and back from the base of the china cabinet using a circular saw (figure D).

    2. Custom build the sides. This will extend the width of the base to accommodate the radiator.

    3. Build with lumber and fluted details from sections of the bar.

    4. Use scrap lumber and screws to reframe the inside of the cabinets as needed remembering that the front side is the only part that will show.

    5. Apply green stain, and allow to dry.

    6. Apply a coat of polyurethane, and allow to dry.

    Bar Top

    1. Cut 1/2" oak plywood to fit the top of the base.

    2. Use a bull nose molding to cover the plywood edges, and then add another bar detail.

    3. Attach with glue and finish nails.

    5. Apply green stain, and allow to dry.

    6. Apply a coat of polyurethane, and allow to dry.

    Materials: $13
    Stain: $12
