    Platforms

Platforms are made to raise the cabinets and fireplace off the floor so that the television will be at a good height for viewing.

    1. Build two boxes out of 3/4 inch birch plywood at 2' x 8" x 2' x 4" x 1" for the side platforms that the cabinets will sit on.

    2. Build one box at 2' x 8" x 4' x 9" x 1' for the center platform that the fireplace will sit on.

    3. Trim with 1" x 3" clear pine that has been ripped to 3 inches. Attach with wood glue and finish nails. The trim will cover all the plywood edges and seams between the platforms.

Note: Be sure not to glue the platforms to each other.

    Center Shelf and Mantel Extension

    1. Attach the cabinets and fireplace to their platform securely so that you have a solid base to take your measurements from.

    2. Once you have your measurements, you can create a three sectioned shelving unit out of 1" x 3" clear pine stock that is ripped to the needed width on the table saw.

    5. Measure, mark and square all of your pieces. Build with screws and glue (figure F).

    6. Finish all wooden parts with a mahogany stain and polyurethane.

    7. At installation, attach all seven sections to each other with screws.
